How does bad credit finance work?

What does soft search mean?

A soft search means that a finance company checks your credit but does not publish the credit search on your credit report. The number of searches on your credit can have an impact on your ability to get finance, so getting a soft search is a no impact way to apply for car finance. If you decide to move forward with an approval then the finance provider will then publish their search on your credit report.

Is a finance approval guaranteed?

No. You must pass the finance company’s credit and affordability checks. They need to deem that you have the affordability to afford the repayments and running costs of the car now and for the duration of the finance agreement.

What is the criteria to apply?

You can apply for finance if you have a full driving licence and receive income of more than £1000 each month. If you do not have a full driving licence, you can apply jointly with someone at the same address that does.

What if I decide not to proceed with my finance approval?

You are under no obligation to proceed with the approval and our finance providers use soft search so there is no impact on your credit report for applying. You only become obligated to anything once you have signed a finance agreement AND come in to collect a car.
